Red

Red

by Trygve Allister Diesen, Lucky McKee

Elderly Korean War veteran Avery is a shopkeeper in rural Oregon. One Sunday he wakes up early and drives to his favorite remote fishing spot, together with his best friend, the dog Red. The weather is perfect and everything is calm and quiet. A couple of hours later, a gang of teenage boys emerges from the woods, seemingly hunting for deer. But the situation gets out of hand fast when leader Danny points his shotgun at Avery and demands money. Realizing he will not get any cash from the old man, the failed stick-up ends when Danny shoots Red out of sheer malice.

Red, a savage flick based on the 1995 novel by author Jack Ketchum, evolves as a forceful revenge drama, slowly boiling and exploring the actions behind retaliation. Avery, driven by the memory of losing his wife and sons in another act of random, pointless violence, is determined to bring justice. Possible collateral damage is of no concern to him.
