In Raavanan, acclaimed director Mani Ratman brings us a modern interpretation of the ancient Sanskrit epic, the Ramayana. Enabled by a large budget, the film features Tamil superstars Vikram, Aishwarya Rai, and Prithvirajand, as well as a host of talented technicians as seen in the stunning cinematography and scenography.
The film's plot is set into motion when Veeriya, played by Vikram, a bandit clan leader with a divided reputation, as well as personality, kidnaps the Chief inspector's wife to avenge his sister's death. Unable to kill her, Veeriya falls in love with his captive, all the while doing a masterful job of evading the Chief inspector and his task force. The film culminates with an attempted trade off, lots of spilled blood, and a series of twist endings that challenge traditional notions of heroism and commitment.
In the tradition of blockbusting Bollywood films, Raavanan is filled to the brim with energetic, stylistically choreographed dancing scenes.
