Pietro is a neurotic film executive, living with his wife and daughter in Rome. One day he saves a woman, Eleonora, from drowning. He then returns home only to find his spouse dead from a tragic accident. Devastated and horrified, Pietro desperately tries to adjust to the life as a single parent and widower, but soon he abandons his priorities and begins to drift aimlessly.
Quiet Chaos has already stirred up quite the controversy. The notorious sex scene between Nanni Moretti and Isabella Ferrari has caused the Vatican to brand the movie obscene. In reality, Antonello Grimaldo’s film is a somber story of sweetness, sensibility and emotional depth. The inner monologues of the protagonist recall High Fidelity, as he constantly makes lists to distract himself from the loss of a loved one. The events of the film, based on a book by Sandro Veronesi, are accentuated by smooth cinematography and a gentle soundtrack. Movie buffs should watch out for a cameo by Roman Polanski.
