Pedro, a young Mexican man, smuggleshimself over the American border in a truckheading for New York City to finally meet hislong-lost father. On the truck, he befriendsan unscrupulous and opportunistic fellowcountryman,named Juan. Pedro shows his newfriend the letter of introduction that his deadmother wrote, which states the Pedro’s identityand contains his father’s address. When Pedrofalls asleep during the journey, Juan steals allof his possessions, including the letter. Pedrois thrown into despair when he wakes up andrealizes he has no money and only a vaguenotion of where his father might live. In thegrim underbelly of New York – hungry, tired, andbereft of his identity – he faces a life in the gutter.Meanwhile, gold-digger Juan seeks out Pedro’sfather, acting like the lost son. With directorial debut “Padre Nuestro”, Christopher Zalla tellsa contemporary story of need, dependence andaffection from the outsider’s point of view. Healso paints a picture of New York as a city ofhope and of strangers.
