Vision, or lack thereof, is at the heart of CristianJiménez feature film debut as he sets out toexplore society's neuroses over appearances, surveillance and communication.
ILUSIONES ÓPTICAS is a quirky and charmingstory centered mainly on three people: a blindskier who just got his sight back and is disturbedby the world that he can finally see, a mall guardwho gets attracted to a thief when he spots herover the security cameras, and a hardworking,long-time employee who is transferred to the"outplacement" department. As the three of themface the world, Jiménez brings striking originalityto the screen, calling to mind the films of WesAnderson. The characters' relation to the visualworld is reflected in slow-paced editing, staticimages and pop music - bringing both naivetyand melancholy to the comic atmosphere.
