The setting is the Ayutthaya Kingdom of 15thcentury Thailand. Tien, the son of a militarycommander, is left at the mercy of slavetraders after his father is murdered. Saved bythe Garuda Wing Cliff tribe, Tien is adopted bythe camp of bandits, taught martial arts andgroomed as their new leader.
If ONG BAK was more of a traditional actionfilm, this Jaa/Rittikraj-directed follow-up takesthe trials and tribulations to a landscape of fantasyand martial arts packed with raging elephants, roaring alligators and mysterious shamans - theMuay Thai ring is placed in a violent Disney epic. The camera is an acrobatic participant, followingevery twist and turn - with a little help from apassionate use of slow motion. For viewersthinking action nowadays is too preoccupiedwith CGI, there is much to enjoy in Tony Jaa'spresence. He is a force of nature, a moderncinematic attraction - much like the train framedby the Lumiére brothers - whose fists piercethrough the silver screen.
