Fed up with her dismal life in Moscow, young Alisa moves to a shared apartment in St. Petersburg. But her plans for a brighter life soon turn into a ferocious chase through the city’s bizarre, criminal underground. The new flatmates, rave-junkies Vel and The Dead Man, Valera, are an item of intimacy. But with Vel working in the evenings, there’s plenty of time for Alisa and her male roomie to enjoy some adultery. Eventually caught red-handed, the two become the target of Vel’s loathing. But when The Dead Man gets abducted for not paying his debts, the girls form a solid friendship while joining forces to raise the $10 000 ransom money.
Guns, gangsters and pounding techno music are all key elements in this raging journey through the criminal realm. Director Igor Voloshin presents a high-paced, neon-fueled feature debut that is essentially a story about betrayal and the redemptive power of female friendship. Coated in outrageous cinematography and eye-popping outfits, the visuals reflect how the three young Russians try to disguise their spiritual emptiness with external wrapping.
