Must love death

Must love death

by Andreas Schaap

Norman is a depressed musician with a love lifethat is one never-ending parade of disasters anda songwriting career that is a hopeless mess.Suicidal, but lacking the courage to kill himself,he is overjoyed when he comes across a groupof equally depressed people who seem eagerfor him to join their suicide pact. However, onenight Norman falls head over heels in love withthe kind-hearted waitress, Jennifer, when shehits him with her car. Unfortunately for him, itturns out that his suicide buddies are in fact acouple of torturous murderers on the lookoutfor a new victim, and they don't take kindly toNorman's rekindled love of life.

MUST LOVE DEAT H is a cutting satire of twodistinctly American sub-genres: the wimpyromantic comedy and the torture horror flick, witha bit of retro sci-fi genre satire thrown in for goodmeasure. The film's view of America is distortedand exaggerated to say the least, somethingpartially explained by the fact that it is mostlyshot in Germany by a German crew headed byfeature-film debutant director Andreas Schaap.
