Described as an “ambient movie”, directorFliegauf is transferring the openess of ambientmusic to film, leaving “Milky Way” open to manylevels of interpretation. The film contains tendifferent scenarios, all shot from afar, withtiny people portrayed more as objects than ashuman beings. Fliegauf refers to this as “theorbital point of view”, not focusing on politicaland social life, but looking on the agelesslandscapes of our world from the outside, asjust one planet in an infinite galaxy (hencethe title). The camera is always fixed; it’s thepeople who move within the frame, slowly, sometimes barely visible. The locations varyfrom a rooftop-by-night with the city skylightsas a backdrop, to a posh swimming-pool and aninflatable Mexican bouncy castle, all cleverly andbeautifully composed. There is no dialogue but lots of sounds, creating atmosphere that goesbeyond the images.
