Micah and Jo’ wake up in the same bed after a drunken one-night stand. After a shared coffee and a cab ride, the couple parts ways, assured that they’ll never see each other again. Then Micah discovers that Jo’ left her wallet in the backseat of the taxi; the perfect excuse to get acquainted once more. With good intentions, he shows up at her apartment to deliver the wallet, thus beginning a friendship that will twist and turn during the course of 24 hours.
Medicine for Melancholy is a story about two people slowly developing a strong intellectual and emotional connection. An undercurrent of social criticism is evident, where segregation, economic as well as ethnic, is put under the scope. The city of San Francisco plays an important part in the movie, the viewer intimately following the couple all over town.
