“I discovered that if one looks a little closerat this beautiful world, there are red antsunderneath”, says David Lynch, summarizing thebasics of his film universe, which has fascinatedaudiences since his debut “Eraserhead” in 1977.“Lynch”, the documentary, also introducesartist and photographer David Lynch, as wellas the meditator, with 30 years experience intranscendental meditation. But the film doesn’texplain or attempt to “solve” the enigmas of hiswork. Instead it adds some more dimensionsto both the films and to Mr. Lynch. We seemto get closer to this man with the flamboyanthairdo and perfectly ironed white shirts, as weare told stories, arranged as scenes whereLynch speaks on the phone about daily workstatus and his Bible reading. Crypto pro Lynchcomments on them more or less ironically by explaining: “In order to find out what my filmis about.” Still, the blurred images and weirdcamera angles of filmmaker blackANDwhiteseem to reinforce the mystical, self-assured andcontrolled aura of David Lynch. “Lynch” followsthe creative processes of director Lynch’s mindand the making of his mesmerizing latest film“Inland Empire” through equally dim sets.
