Loverboy

Last year George Pistereanu was awarded Best Male Actor at the Stockholm International Film Festival. Now he’s back—this time playing the badass Luca in »Loverboy«. Riding around on his scooter, wearing black sunglasses and white wife beater, he epitomizes Rumanian coolness. As handsome as he is cruel and as guilty as he is innocent, he searches for young, unsuspecting girls a few miles outside of Constanta—a place where one doubts even the postman can navigate. Once the girls are in his sights, he seduces them for a night or two (perhaps a weekend at the seaside if they are difficult) before he sells them to the urban pimps. Can his patient girlfriend find the persuasive strength to convince the monster to leave the despicable and dangerous world of human trafficking? Once in a while, the horns from the same boat that has saved so many of the loving couples from the silver screen (from Vigo to Kaurismäki) penetrates the soundscape.
