Being in love during college is much like being stranded on an island, but unlike Robinson Crouse a lovebird never wants to return home. In Jacob and Anna’s case however, home is not where the heart is. They enter into a relationship when studying away from home at a college in Los Angeles. After overstaying her Visa, Anna is not allowed to return to the United States after a home visit to London. They try to make a long-distance relationship work, but can text messaging ever be a sufficient substitute for physical contact? Anton Yelchin and Felicity Jones, two of Hollywood’s most striking young talents, are extraordinary in their way of acting out the different stages of love—from butterflies in the stomach to the horrible realization that everything comes to an end. Director Drake Doremus knows exactly when to start, stop and cut. He shows confidence when placing the pieces of the puzzle, offering powerful glimpses of emotional highs and lows and thereby succeeding in illustrating the complexity of human relationships.
