Single parent Albert has made it a habit to drag his timid teenage daughter Jeanne all over Europe. For her seventeenth birthday, the duo finds itself in the Swedish archipelago. Despite Albert’s rigorous planning, he immediately bumps into trouble, as the rented house turns out to be occupied by Annika and her French friend Christine. Four very different people living under the same roof proves to be a hotbed for cultural clashes, as well as blossoming infatuations. While the wiseacre librarian Albert rummages the island in search of Viking treasures, Jeanne falls in love with the local heartthrob Johan, played by popular Swedish comedian Björn Gustafsson.
French director Anna Novian’s first feature film is a heart-warming comedy. The beauty of the Swedish landscape has always been a source of inspiration for her, and in Grown Ups our fair nature plays the fifth lead, quietly changing as a metaphor for the characters spiritual evolution.
