In the documentary “Lagerfeld Confidential”,French director Rodolphe Marconi portrays oneof the last living great icons of fashion, KarlLagerfeld, who has collaborated with renownedfashion labels such as Chloé, Fendi and Chanel.Whether or not this is another PR-trick from theskilled marketer Lagerfeld – self-branded by hissnow-white ponytail and high collars – is neverrevealed. Rodolphe Marconi has filmed over200 hours and the final cut is about 90 minuteslong, uncovering – or is it? – the man behind acarefully controlled public image. Armed withdark glasses, a sharp tongue and firm beliefs,Lagerfeld speaks of his childhood, friendship,sexuality and his commitment to stay in themoment.From the commotion backstage during afashion show, Marconi’s camera follows Mr. Lagerfeld to a peaceful photo shoot at daybreakin the dewy countryside grass. “LagerfeldConfidential” is sewn together with a rich filmarchive and blended with both nostalgic earlypictures of the legendary designer as well asimages of the famous names that wear him,Princess Caroline of Monaco and Vogue editorin-chief Anna Wintour.
