Argentina’s arid Pampas dictates the conditions for the two rural families around which this story revolves. A rough life with adultery, hatred and rage is portrayed largely through the eyes of Nati and Ladeado; two children who are both special in their own ways. Nati is a mute who takes off her clothes when she is upset. Ladeado lives a lonely life with his violent father. Together, the children create a friendship beyond words and rough conditions. With no other ways to communicate, Nati sketches her feelings on paper. Things come to a head when her father, Poldo, finds a drawing depicting a naked man. Poldo‘s discovery of his child’s art precipitates the film’s violent climax. Award-winning Argentinean director Albertina Carri has created a strong, atmospheric drama; grief, loss and desire its main ingredients. Visual surprises, like the use of recurrent animation sequences, transform the material into something more sublime and contribute to the quiet beauty of this film and the landscape it portrays.
