After “Thank you for Smoking”, his witty attackon the tobacco giants, Jason Reitman is backwith a new pearl of rhetoric. Based on a scriptby celebrity-blogger Diablo Cody, an expert onsmart-mouthed teen-talk, “Juno” follows theadoption process of an unexpected pregnancy. The teenaged parents-to-be, Juno and Paulie, consider the possibility of abortion, but opt foradoption instead when they find successfulcouple Mark and Vanessa, potential adoptees.A thriving music-for-commercials-composer,Mark has a special eye for the preternaturallyself-possessed 16-year-old Juno. The two ofthem bond through their interest in filmmakersDario Argento and Herschell Gordon Lewis.Soon, Mark starts to complicate the adoptionprocess when his latent macho hero dreamsstart manifesting in his relationship to Juno. Young actor Ellen Page, who played anothersmart girl in “Hard Candy”, makes a precociousportrait of Juno. Notably, John Malkovich is oneof four producers.
