Academy Award-winner Tilda Swinton delivers a tour-de-force performance with her tragic portrayal of Julia, a 40-something lost soul trying to find balance. She leads a meaningless existence, full of late nights, endless rivers of booze and sex with strangers, all wrapped up in her self-obsessed longing for the real life to begin. Julia manipulates everyone close to her, and even risks a young boy’s life as she turns to crime in an attempt to get her hands on some easy cash.
Julia is a truly sad depiction of a woman trapped by her own alcoholism and midlife crisis. Director Erick Zonca makes a statement on how human beings are desperate and eager to find inner peace, but are often caught in a world where time is money, and the clock never stops ticking. Nominated for the Bronze Horse at the Stockholm International Film Festival 1998 for his breakthrough The Dreamlife of Angels, Zonca once again returns with an insightful and emotional story.
