This intense chamber play is a remake of thelate Dutch director Theo Van Gogh’s luminousmovie from 2003. Director Buscemi, who alsoacts the part of the smug political journalistPierre Peders, extracts even more of thefilm’s potential, mainly due to the chemistrybetween him and the other protagonist, playedby Sienna Miller. Pierre Peders is a tormentedsoul and famous war correspondent, whounwillingly gets assigned an interview withKatya (Miller), America’s hottest young soapopera starlet. Considering celebrity reportingpure nonsense, the arrogant Pierre, who showsup at the meeting unprepared, manages tooutrage, but also intrigue, Katya. The eventslead Pierre to Katya’s luxury loft apartmentwhere a manipulative battle takes place. Whowill be outmaneuvered? “Interview” has a minimalist misè-en-sceneand is shot on XD video, which gives it a rawdocumentary feel. Buscemi and Miller playon sex, power, gender, prejudice and secretswithout losing the feeling of authenticity, making“Interview” one of today’s sharpest cinematicanalyses of media ethics, celebrity culture andwhat honesty really consists of.
