Humpday

by Lynn Shelton

In writer and director Lynn Shelton's third feature film, she turns the buddy movie on its head. Just when Ben is settling into domestic complacency with his wife Anna their daily life is disrupted by the sudden apperance of Ben's free-spirited college pal Andrew. In an attempt to relive their wild younger days, the boys go out for a night of partying with a group of artists. Ben and Andrew's "bromance" is taken to the next level when, on a mutual dare, the two decide make an erotic art film for the local amateur porn festival Humpfest (an actual yearly event in Seattle), casting themselves as the leads.

Not going for easy laughs Shelton's script, which relies heavily on improvised dialogue, cuts through the lead characters' macho, try-anything-once exteriors and explores the fluid boundaries of human sexuality from the unique perspective of the Mumblecore movement.
