I want to be a part of it... New York, New York were the words so famously sung by "Ol’ Blue Eyes". And in independent cinema there sure are many directors who want to have a bite of the Big Apple.
Woody Allen made it his muse during the 70’s and 80’s, but little did he know that he would set a standard for future filmmakers, more driven by witty lines and urban scenery than the sets and spectacles of Hollywood. Josh Radnor is found within this context when he makes his directorial debut, a charming and beautifully acted piece where a couple of New Yorkers try to find their way to adulthood. Navigating through their professional and personal life, we get a sense of the growing anxieties of passing 30, here dealt with by showing a spot-on sensibility for dialogue.
Even though Happythankyoumoreplease tackles troubling subjects, its heartwarming atmosphere makes it a definite crowd-pleaser.
