Twenty-nine years after the premiere ofJohn Carpenter’s “Halloween”, Michael Myersreturns to the motion-picture screen, as SplatPack director Rob Zombie takes us back toMyers’ childhood. At the age of ten, Myerstortures animals for fun. After killing hisstepfather, sister and her boyfriend, he is sentto a maximum-security sanitarium under thecare of child psychologist Dr. Loomis. Sixteenyears later, he is let out and on his way hometo Haddonfield. Ta-da! A horror-film!Zombie has reawakened the monster insideMichael Myers, making him more human andeven scarier. By expanding his biography andbuilding on what made him become a maskedkiller, Zombie does the one thing needed tocreate a successful remake: he makes it hisown, not completely creating a new plot line, but adding things that turn “Halloween” intoa Rob Zombie film. The film is more shocking, and, of course, bloodier - within horror filmlogics- spectacular death scenes.“Halloween” doesn’t replace its predecessorbut it is a companion piece to a classic – amodern slasher. Michael Myers is back andhe’s demented, dark and disturbing.
