Beautiful Haeundae is South Korea's mostpopular beach resort, but the question is: forhow much longer? Set against the backdropof the tragedy of December 2004, the filmplays out on the Korean coastal sprawl. Whileseismic activity in the Sea of Japan is gearingup for a cataclysmic disaster, a dysfunctional(yet likeable) cluster of characters is facingtheir own emotional turmoil. Among themare a divorced couple, a handsome lifeguardwho rescues a vain Seoul college student, hisbrother who drowns his sorrows in drink sincehe blames himself for a man's death in the 2004tsunami, and his girlfriend.
Keeping the audience off balance the filmrapidly shifts between ominous foreshadowing, romantic drama and broad slapstick comedyeven as a tsunami forms and heads towardsthe resort. The first fully fledged disaster moviein the history of Korean cinema, HAEUNDAEcombines human drama with stunning visualsand impressive special effects, fully living up tothe fact that the production is one of the mostexpensive ever in Korea.
