Hunter S. Thompson was the creator of what came to be called Gonzo journalism, a highly subjective approach towards writing. Among his many publications, Thompson’s two most noteworthy and groundbreaking books are considered to be Hell's Angels: The Strange and Terrible Saga of the Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs, based on the experience of living together with the notorious biker gang, and the iconic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, a drug spiked quest for the lost American Dream.
Academy Award-winning Alex Gibney’s documentary is a comprehensive portrayal of the life, career and death of Hunter S. Thompson, a man most people would consider crazy. The director has managed to dig up rare footage of the journalistic legend, as well as conduct interviews with family and friends, such as Tom Wolfe, Jimmy Carter and first wife Sondi Wright. Thompson’s words are brought to life by his personal friend Johnny Depp, who portrayed him in the screen version of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas in 1998.
