In a rural Alaskan village, evangelist faith healer Charlie leads a mundane existence together with his wife and young son. Daily struggles with alcohol and infidelity suddenly seem insignificant when Charlie returns home one day to find his family brutally murdered. Devastated, his faith thrown into turmoil, he retires into a life in exile. But his self-chosen isolation is soon broken when a young woman approaches him, asking for healing guidance. Her arrival will lead Charlie down an uncertain path.
Shot against an immensely beautiful Alaskan backdrop, "Godspeed" is an intriguing thriller carrying a bare mythic quality, a dreamlike intensity, and a bleak understanding of the darkness of the human heart. With its minimalist screenplay and blending of religious exposition and strikingly credible acting, this collaboration between director Robert Saitzyk and actors McKeelher and Knauf carefully avoids clichés and creates one of this years most purposeful films.
