Ray Ruby is broke to thebone. Months behindon his rent, his old landlady legitimately nagshim for money. Tourists turn their backs onhis old New York strip club “Ray’s Paradise”and the dancers scream for their wages andchild benefits. But the only thing on Ray’s mind, except avoiding the landlady, is drawing the rightnumbers in the $18 million lottery that is beingannounced during the evening.Director Abel Ferrara’s mischievous film isclearly fashioned after John Cassavetes’s “TheKilling of a Chinese Bookie” and Woody Allen’s“Broadway Danny Rose”, with characters in alltheir glory, a touch of screwball comedy andlong lost dreams of New York. Willem Dafoe actsas the pumping heart of this little saga abouthow big life can be, even in the most desertedgo-go dancing club. Being a lively Altmanesque story, “Go Go Tales” serves roving cameraworkby Fabio Cianchetti, a dense tasteful nightclubsoundtrack, a little bit of cabaret and AsiaArgento French kissing a Rottweiler.
