Go Get Some Rosemary

Go Get Some Rosemary

by Josh Safdie, Benny Safdie

The Big Apple is once again the stage as New York-based directors, and siblings, Ben and Joshua Safdie brings us their second collaboration. This time we are presented with a less glamorous side of the city than in Josua Safdie's debut feature "The Pleasure of Being Robbed", as we meet the divorced New Yorker-slacker named Lenny, who is trying to handle a two-week custody visit with his two sons. Lenny is a true New Yorker, caught between his lust for life and the obligations placed upon him.

With handheld camera, Dogma-tic light and jumpy editing that reflects the irresponsible yet charismatic Lenny's state of mind, we are given his vantage point of Manhattan as he tackles his role as a father and constant failures in picking the children up from school and screw-ups of more fatal proportions. Presenting us with truly odd situations, "Go Get Some Rosemary" is nonetheless a convincing depiction of being mentally not much older than your own children. True to its New York-indie stage roots the film surprises us with cameo appearances by director Abel Ferrara and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth.
