In a nearly extinct village in western Ireland,Josie is entrusted with managing – and livingin – the local petrol station. Middle-agedand considered mentally handicapped bythe villagers, Josie doesn’t bother or harmanybody. He gets along well with the smalltown’s inhabitants – that is, as long as he is attheir service. Serving cars is only a small partof his job. First and foremost, his role is to listenpatiently while his fellow villagers confide theirtroubles to him. Until one day, David enters. The young teen inspires Josie to be more thanjust an undemanding, cheerful chap. WhenJosie fumbles for connection, closeness andeven intimacy, the surrounding reactions of histownspeople are not entirely pretty. The critically acclaimed duo of director LennyAbrahamson and writer Mark O’Halloran has created a stubbornly different story aboutloneliness and connection, much intensifiedby the scarcity of sound and tranquil cameramovement.
