Foxes

Foxes

by Mira Fornay

Writer and director Mira Fornayová's first feature film is a story of betrayal and redemption centering on two Slovakian sisters living in Ireland. Alžb?ta is 23 years old and has just moved to Dublin to work as an au pair. Her older sister, Tina, has an Irish fiancée - something Alžb?ta also desperately wants to find for herself. Soon, Alžb?ta hooks up with a mysterious punk girl named Ducky who offers to show her the ropes. But the sisters must confront a dark secret from their past before they can ever move forward in their new lives.

A Czech-Slovak-Irish co-production, "Foxes" is filmed on location in Ireland and the Czech Republic. In it, we see a contemporary Dublin that is home to immigrants from around the world and struggles with resulting cultural clashes. The young sisters are torn between the desire to immerse themselves into their new country (and they have no choice since their family home in Slovakia is about to be paved over by a new highway) and a haunting truth that will never let them escape their home.
