Robert Stone's EARTH DAY S tells the story ofthe evolution of the modern environmentalmovement. The documentary takes us throughthe various stages of its development, startingwith its birth - signaled by the publication ofRachel Carson's book, SILENT SPRING in 1962- to the official launch of the movement with thevery first Earth Day on April 22, 1970, and on tothe present day.
Showcasing an elegant use ofarchival footage as well as in-depth interviewswith nine key figures within the movement, thefilm traces the chronological progression of thegreen cause and its galvanizing effect on thenational psyche. Revealing intriguing stories thatcover a multitude of perspectives and issues,Stone impresses the viewer with the complexityof the issues addressed.
Despite the genre's disposition for depressivedoomsday reports, EARTH DAYS delivers arelatively optimistic and up-beat report on thestate of our planet, shedding light on the manytriumphs of the green crusade through theyears and inspiring hope for the future withoutreducing the urgency of the cause.
