El Orejón is a violent crime-boss. Suffering from agoraphobia, he surrounds himself with telescopes. When his godson is killed, he begs voodoo priestess Iris to cast a deadly spell on the shooter. At the same time, far away, small-town hoodlum Victor is carrying out a job to collect money from a slippery pair of twins. When he decides to keep the money for himself, a chain of events is set in motion that wreaks havoc through two cities.
Carlos Moreno’s debut feature, influenced by genre-defining work such as Reservoir Dogs and City of God, has already won awards at several film festivals. This depiction of organized crime in Colombia is energetic and atmospheric, filled with dark humor and cultural references. The feeling of permanent tropical heat is emphasized by the colorful photography, and this smartly scripted thriller is one of the most exciting and promising films to come out of Colombian cinema in years.
