Norwegian horror is on the rise with recentcult favorites MANHUNT and DEAD SNOW .Severin Eskeland's first feature film is a playfulcontribution to the trend.
A couple crosses the border with their car, hoping to smuggle alcohol to their friend'swedding. On their way home they are forcedto take a detour through a dark forest and asa result they end up with a flat tire outsidean abandoned gas station. What would seemlike another reunion with Leatherface in theDeep South is actually just another visit to thecountryside of good ol' Sweden.
Far from Bergman, ABBA and meatballs,Eskeland sets his story within a Scandinaviantwist of the hillbilly-horror genre, sheddingnorthern light on the heritage of THE TEXASCHAINSAW MASSAC RE. One might read thiscampy feast as Eskeland's tribute to horrorand his craftsman roots, as he equips the killerwith a video camera that captures the victims ingreen nightvision just before slaughter. DETOU Ris a modern, next-to-quirky take on exploitationcinema of midnight theatre.
