Hungai plants trees in a tiny village close tothe border between Mongolia and China. In hisfutile attempts to fight the encroaching desert,he hardly notices when his wife takes their illdaughter to the city. Soon after they leave, atired and starving Korean refugee and her sonappear, asking for help. Despite the languagebarrier, a bond forms between the three. Hungaibuys some crayons for the boy and a cap for hismother, and they all unite having to fend forthemselves in the wasteland. Soon they becomefour, when they are joined by an infantrymanfrom a nearby military base.Slow-paced arty “Desert dream” tells itsstory between the lines, and sometimes withthe slaughtering of a sheep. Accompanied by asoundtrack consisting mainly of the wind andtraditional folk songs, the sparse dialogue, innovative camera techniques and a ruthlesslandscape create a far-off dreamlike desertworld.
