In an ever expanding Europe, some things stay the same. The infrastructure project Corridor #8 was meant to kick-start the isolated southeast of the Balkans, previously riddled with division, intolerance and war. The ambitious road and rail system was to link Bulgaria, Macedonia and Albania, but it ended in disappointment after ten years of EU-financed development.
In an absurdist satirical manner, internationally acclaimed feature debutant Boris Despodov embarks on a long journey along the non-existent road, meeting and interviewing people along the way. The stories he encounters are as often those of loss, separation and despair, as they are of life, hope and optimism. With an inquisitive approach, and HD cinematography of sometimes stunning beauty, Despodov reveals a destitute corner of Europe, whose richness in cultural diversity is overwhelming.
