»Buck« is the moving story of Buck Brannaman, the legendary horse trainer and healer who inspired the novel and film »The Horse Whisperer«. We follow Buck during a nine month long journey, travelling from ranch to ranch, teaching horse owners how to care for and communicate with their traumatized horses. Buck experienced an abusive upbringing and is very perceptive regarding traumas. He connects with the horses in a deeply empathetic way. His respectful and gentle approach towards them has extraordinary transformative effects on the horses and brought Buck a somewhat legendary status as a healer across the United States. To him, horses have a mirror to the human soul. What first might appear therapeutic for the horse is in fact also therapy for the owner. Starting out as the portrayal of a man who takes care of psychologically damaged horses, »Buck« transforms into a reflection of the damaged human souls. As Buck himself explains: he helps horses with people problems.
