Bogdan Boogie Ciocazanu, a successful businessman, is on a relaxing seaside vacation with his family. By coincidence, he runs into his best buddies from high school. As evening falls, a heavy trip down memory lane ensues. The former schoolmates talk about past drinking binges and forgotten sexual encounters. The all-male gang decides to try and re-live past glories with a night on the town. The family man is torn between going home to his wife, and having one last, wild party with the boys.
In Boogie, award winning director Radu Muntean continues to explore post-communist Romania. The synopsis is classic: a young adult’s internal struggle between growing up and remaining a carefree teenager. But Muntean combines it with a touch of the old Iron Curtain and stylish independent film esthetics. And Anamaria Marinca, who plays Boogie’s wife Smaranda, is rapidly turning into the first lady of the new exploding Romanian movie scene. In 2007 she dazzled the word with her leading role in 4 Months, 3 Weeks & 2 Days, which was awarded with the Golden Palm at the Cannes Film Festival.
