In the sleazy, semi-erotic thriller, “BoardingGate”, Sandra (Asia Argento), a former prostitute, visits the office of her ex-lover and former pimp,Miles (Michael Madsen). Miles, now a financialbig gun with a prestigious job, is unaware thatSandra’s new boyfriend is also a hit man hiredto kill him. The hit man, on the other hand, isunaware of the fact that Sandra is pushing drugsthrough his and his wife’s company. And thewife – of course – does not know that Sandrais sleeping with her husband. Soon they are allin the line of fire.Director, and former critic, Olivier Assayas, changes the theme and mood along the film. After the slow start with long and dense dialoguescenes and slick erotic tone, “Boarding Gate”transforms into a high-speed, jump-cuttingthriller where everybody is deceiving everybody. Assayas dresses his harsh redemption tale inout-of-focus tricks, a metallic look and BrianEno-songs. The atmosphere is empty ofemotions. The title, “Boarding Gate”, is referring to theplace where the film u-turns and points out“Boarding Gate’s” hard lesson: Once you go in,you can’t turn back.
