ONE OF THE MOST DISCUSSED FILMS of the late 80s. The young Jeffrey Beaumont makes a macabre find on a wooded hillside. A cut off ear, infested with ants is the preface to an unusual study of society's undervegetation where both sado-masochism and police corruption are everyday routines. Dennis Hopper plays a psychopath who, covered with a laughing-gas mask, rapes the character played by Isabella Rossellini. _
Comment:
BLUE VELVET IS DAVID LYNCH'S breakthrough film, starring Isabella Rossellini, Laura Dern, Kyle Maclachlan, and myself. Dean Stockwell is scarry wonderful in a small part. It's the first American surrealist film. I find it very humorous. Some people are very scared and disturbed by the film, where I find it so evil and so good that it is almost unbearable to watch without laughing.
