The language of love is said to be universal. This is a truth with special implications for middle-aged music teacher Peter, pregnant Elena, 14-year old Zuzana and partially sightless Monika. The four blind subjects are portrayed unsentimentally at different stages in life and love by Slovenian director Juraj Lehotský. Secluded from the abundance of today’s demanding visual culture, the dating, courting, and, indeed physical interaction, takes on dimensions nearly unfathomable for the dominant seeing world.
As the absence of sight heightens other senses, the film sets to explore the unique features in the blind experience of love and happiness. What is the rest of the world missing out on? This documentary seeks to explore the inner lives of its subjects, sometimes visualizing the unseen with the aid of staged dreamlike sequences and animated elements, but also extracting the extraordinary in their perception of everyday life.
