With it's grainy look, trumpet-blaring 70's funksoundtrack and split screen action, BLACKDYNAMITE playfully spoofs the blaxploitationgenre and films like SHAFT and SUPERFLY . Butrather than being a self-conscious parody, thefilm pays a loving homage to the genre and allof its trademarks.
The film's protagonist is a mustachioedlady-killer who sets out to avenge his brother'smurder by the notorious "The Man." Armed witha roaring .44 Magnum, agile martial-arts skillsand an artillery of one-liners, Dynamite embarkson an action-filled ride through the mean streetsof prostitution, drugs and murder.
Much of the film's humor comes from itsplayful imitation of the clumsy low-budgetaessthetic typical of the genre, which directorScott Sanders replicates pitch-perfectly. Theshaky zoom shots, visible boom mics andcontinuity errors all add to the genre-celebratinghilarity of this meta-filmic comedy gem.
