Four aspiring actors set out to write a film script with the purpose of including themselves in the finished product. They go to an isolated lodge in the woods for a weekend of brainstorming, coming up with Baghead, a story about a masked killer. Only problem is that reality seems to have had the idea first, and the gang is suddenly facing some real life horror.
Baghead is a gore flick crossed with a drama, using all the ingredients of the current mumblecore movement: laidback pace, chatty dialogue, handheld cameras and Greta Gerwig. The result is a quirky slasher movie for grown-ups. Like in their The Puffy Chair and numerous short films, brothers Jay and Mark Duplass creates a believable and entertaining film, while also managing to give an extra flare to our everyday smiles and despair. Their filmmaking is a constantly ongoing experiment, not just aiming for a quick punch line or simple plot points, but trying hard to embrace the little moments with its heroes and losers.
