French director François Ozon’s new feature isbased on a book about – in his own description– what happens when you become very famousand choose to live in a fantasy world and notdeal with the real things around you. “Angel”tells the life story of the author Angelica “Angel”Deverell, a teenager when the film begins in1905 in a gloomy town in Edwardian England.After her teacher questions whether Angelhas written a story she hands in, Angel feignsillness and skips school. She starts using herimagination to rewrite stories her aunt has toldher, putting herself in the starring role at fancyballs in a grand house. In time, Angel managesto get her novels published, and through herwork she achieves the fame and fortune shehas dreamed of, including the house whichis appropriately named Paradise. But what happens to the romantic escapist when herdream comes true?“Angel” is based on the novel by the Britishauthor Elizabeth Taylor.
