In her atmospheric film, Raha Shirazi uses an old, mysterious ritual as a way to connect the past with the present as well as humanity with nature. A young woman walks along the road through a harsh, wintery landscape in order to collect water from a small lake. It is cold and the way is long, but it has to be done. With nicely composed images and precise cutting, »Acqua« is a pleasure to watch. Especially the film’s suggestion of the importance and timelessness of the ceremonies that make up the cycle of life.
