Set against the backdrop of the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, »Son of Sofia« centers on eleven year-old Misha, who has just arrived from Russia to reunite with his mother Sofia after two years apart. To his surprise, Sofia is living with Mr. Nikos, her new husband, who wants Misha to quickly assimilate into Greek society and become the son he always wanted. Adapting to a completely new and foreign society, however, is not easy, and Misha starts exploring his own fantasy world while trying to make friends in this new city.

Following her debut, Elina Psykou returns with a delicate and intimate story that takes place in the midst of a major international event. With meticulous care and precise art direction, the apartment, where most of the film takes place, is turned into a world of its own, contrasted against the outside. Slowly approaching her characters, Psykou gives the audience a chance to get close to them, resulting in a powerfully emotional experience.
