Mariana is a free-spirited and willful woman in her early forties who doesn’t let her upper class family control her life. Constantly in conflict with her father and husband, Mariana lives her life the way she wants. When she meets Juan, her considerably older riding instructor, he ignites a passion that both fascinates and frightens her. Starting to discover Juan’s dubious past within Augusto Pinochet’s regime, Mariana obsessively begins to investigate the subject, prepared to go to any length to find the truth.

Marcela Said continues to explore the still prominent influence of Pinochet’s dictatorship on Chilean society in this unrelentingly honest depiction of the moral corruption of the upper classes. Through the powerful Mariana – candidly portrayed by Antonia Zeger – the film also explores the role of women in contemporary Chile. Restrained and carefully composed, »Los Perros« is a thrilling investigation of how Chile’s dark past continues to haunt the present.
