On the surface, everything seems normal. Hannah goes about her daily routine, spends time with her dog, and attends acting classes, although she does seem to invest an extra amount of emotion in her amateur performances. With her husband recently imprisoned, however, everything is not normal. Hannah’s rising emotional tension seems to be developing toward an eruption.

With small gestures and a minimalistic cinematic language, director Andrea Pallaoro leaves plenty of room for Charlotte Rampling – a former recipient of Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award - to carefully explore her character. Her nuanced performance as Hannah is a great example of her trademark acting style – subtle gestures that hint at great emotions beneath a calm surface. Following his assured feature debut »Medeas« with the equally impressive »Hannah«, Pallaoro shapes up to be a true auteur. Paired with the brilliant Rampling, the duo has produced a work reminiscent of the great classics of European arthouse cinema.
