For centuries, traditional music has worked as a unifying force for the disparate peoples of Mali in West Africa. Nowadays, the face of the country is changing as a radical interpretation of Islam gains in strength and popularity. In »Mali Blues«, Gregor follows four musicians who use their art to speak against injustice.

Set in the shadow of Mali’s war torn past, »Mali Blues« tells the story of four musicians who refuse to accept hatred, suspicion, violence and the rise of radical Islam in their beloved homeland. In all the years Mali has been affected by war and terror, music has been an important tool keeping the country together. The protagonists in »Mali Blues«, such as hip hop artist Master Soumy and Fatoumata Diawara, refuse to be silenced and although they may have musical differences, they are linked together in a common struggle to make their music heard and in their resistance towards Islamist terror. »Mali Blues« is a deeply profound example of the beautiful and unifying power of music.
