Hedi, a young Tunisian man, lives an existence devoid of any interest or expectation, both in his personal life and at work. He is due to wed Khedija in an arranged marriage organized for him by his controlling mother. A week before the wedding, as his mother continues preparations for the celebration, Hedi leaves town on a business trip to Mahdia. At his hotel he meets Rym, an independent and worldly woman, who works in tourism. Hedi falls in love with Rym, and discovers a taste for life for the first time. Rym wants to travel, and Hedi begins to contemplate new dreams, a chance to make his own decisions, fight for freedom and break away from tradition and convention.

In »Hedi«, Ben Attia portrays the Tunisia of today with all its changes and challenges; a time of terrorism, and empty hotels without tourists. Majd Mastoura won the 2016 Berlin Silver Bear for Best Actor for his portrayal of Hedi, in this poignant story of love, life and freedom.
