» At the November 11 screening, François Ozon will receive his bronze horse as this years Stockholm Visionary Award recipient.

In Germany, 1919, in the aftermath of the war, Anna is mourning Frantz - her fiancé who was killed in battle one year earlier. One day she sees a man laying flowers on Frantz’s grave, and is surprised to learn he is a Frenchman and her late fiancé’s friend. Anna and the mysterious Frenchman find comfort in each other and their acquaintanceship soon evolves into something stronger – something seemingly romantic. When he returns to France and a letter she sends him gets returned – she decides to travel there and find resolution.

Shot on location in France and Germany, the films black and white format reflects the juxtaposition of the two countries, creating political friction that trickles down into the personal relationships and creating an imagery of contrast.
With this free adaption of Ernst Lubitsch’s drama »Broken Lullaby«, Ozon adds new dimensions to his already varied filmography. Paula Beer beautifully interprets the role of the grieving but hopeful Anna.
