Roman, a young man from Bucharest inherits 550 hectares of land on the Romanian-Ukrainian border from his grandfather. However, there is much more to his inheritance than he had first imagined. Unbeknownst to Roman, his grandfather was a local crime lord and his cronies want to continue using the land to support their illegal activities.

Mirică gently guides us through the inevitable conflict in »Dogs«, whilst managing to maintain a tension and a frisson of unpredictability. Arresting footage of the rural landscape, an environment familiar to the director, lends the film an honest simplicity, an aesthetic that helps to both enhance the fraught atmosphere and pull focus on the internal lives of each character. Ultimately, Mirică’s film depicts three men locked in an ugly conflict. In fighting each other, and battling with themselves in turn, they begin to reach an unsettling conclusion: they no longer really know what they are fighting for.
